- Individuals
and team members submitting a magazine must be registered
students in a second level school/college to be a
valid entry. The Promoter reserves the right to seek
verification from the relevant school or college of
the registration of any students who have entered
the competition.
- Entrants
(whether individual or team) must be aged between
11 and 19 years old on September 1st, 2009.
- The
categories are broken into Junior Category
(1st, 2nd, 3rd year in Republic of Ireland and years
8, 9, 10 and 11 in Northern Ireland) and the Senior
Category (Transition Year, Fifth or Sixth Year
in Republic of Ireland and years 12, 13 and 14 in
Northern Ireland.) NB: Year 11 students in Northern
Ireland will be placed in the Junior Category for
this competition.
- All
work entered must be students’ own but may be aided/guided
by a class teacher. Each entry form must have the
signature of a teacher to attest it is the students’
own work and has the support of the school.
- Entries
can be in either English or Irish. Other languages
cannot be accepted.
- Entries
can be anchored in any subject or combination of subject
areas.
- Multiple
entries from the same school will be accepted in both
the Junior and Senior Categories.
- All
Magazines/e-zines should be a minimum of 6 and a maximum
of 30 pages and preferably typewritten. Illegible
or indecipherable entries will not be adjudicated.
- There will
be an overall prize of €2,000 for the winning entry
in both categories. In the event that the winning
entry is a team entry, the prize of €2,000 will distributed
equally between the team members. A reward prize of
€250 will be awarded to the facilitating teacher of
both of the winning entries, and a commemorative trophy
will be presented to the school of the winning entrants.
In addition, there will be 5 individual prizes of
€250 awarded for writing achievement and 3 individual
prizes of €250 for creative achievement in each of
the two categories.
In the event that a team entry wins an individual
prize, the prize shall be distributed equally between
the team members. In the event of unforeseen circumstances,
the Promoter reserves the right to offer alternative
prize(s) of equal or greater value.

A team submission can have as many members as is deemed
necessary. Due to venue capacity restrictions for
the official awards ceremony, a limited number of
students will be invited to represent their entry,
should their submission be chosen. A teacher/guardian
must accompany the student[s] on this occasion.
- Successful
entrants will be contacted on or before Friday, March
26th 2010.
- The
awards ceremony will be held in Dublin on Monday,
April 26th 2010. All entries must be in hard copy
and should be posted to The Irish Times SchoolMag
Competition, The Irish Times Building, 24-28 Tara
Street, Dublin 2.
- All
entries must include an entry form and the deadline
for receipt of entries is 5pm, Friday, February 26th,
2010.
Where relevant, please keep a record of all written
or creative pieces on an electronic/or digital format.
The Promoter requests that all articles/visual pieces
can be electronically transferred. This is to facilitate
publication of the material at the discretion of The
Irish Times.
- No
correspondence will be entered into regarding the
judging process and the decision of the judges in
all the competition entry categories will be final.
- Real
Event Solutions and The Irish Times cannot accept
responsibility for lost, damaged or delayed entries.
Proof of posting is not proof of receipt. Entries
cannot be returned to entrants.

Employees, contractors or persons directly or professionally
associated with employees of Real Event Solutions
or The Irish Times may not enter this competition.
- All
entries must be the students’ original work and not
plagiarised wholly or in part. Plagiarism of any kind
will result in immediate disqualification from competition.
- All
entrants agree to be bound by the rules of the competition;
failure on the part of any entrant to adhere to any
or all of these rules will render the entry in question
invalid.
- Prize
winners may be required to participate in publicity
(photographs, interviews, quotations etc).
- Copyright
of all original material entered in this competition
is retained by the author. By submitting a magazine
for entry, the entrants and the relevant school or
college grant to The Irish Times Limited the right
to reproduce the entry (in full or extract form) in
The Irish Times newspaper, on the website at www.irishtimesschoolmag.ie
or in such other publication as The Irish Times Limited
might nominate, without payment by The Irish Times
Limited.
